A psychiatric social worker mainly works with people with a mental disability, provide advice for the family, think of solutions for problems in that person’s life and help them re-integrate into society. This job is very important as communication and adjustments that need to be made with governmental agencies are necessary and a deeper understanding is needed of that person in society and the workplace. At Nishino Gakuen, along with role playing which simulates giving advice to improve consultation skills in order to be ready for the job, much group work is also implemented. Students will learn how to understand what people say, express their ideas and ask questions. The number of students in a class is small and professors can support the progress of each student individually. The staff has vast experience and lecture about actual counseling and support. We also invite psychiatric social worker who work in the welfare field to lecture so that students can learn different methods of therapy. We have implemented seminars where a third of each year can attend. Communication is enhanced through getting together with other year students.
